After a successful first joint project of the African German Health Association e.V. and the Coalition for Health, an initiative of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the programme is entering its second phase. The aim is to jointly contribute to the promotion of the physical and digital infrastructure of the Ghanaian health sector:

The joint project focuses on four main areas:

1. Management and maintenance of hospital equipmen

This sub-project will develop training tailored to Ghana’s local needs for professionals responsible for the provision and operation of medical and non-medical equipment in hospitals. The hybrid training will be implemented on-site and online and will include wide-ranging modules in the areas of equipment management and maintenance. The goal is to qualify at least 100 participants.

2. Qualification of management staff in hospitals

We are working with local stakeholders to develop a tailor-made curriculum for hospital management and will implement trainings with 100 participants from all over Ghana during the course of the project. For this purpose, trainings will be conducted on site in the north, south and centre of the country and supplemented by online elements.

3. Hospital planning and design

Planning and design lay the foundation for the efficiency and sustainability of any hospital. During intensive workshops and seminars, participants are taught expertise from the various phases, e.g. RIBA, design, architecture, medical technology planning, etc. The participants learn to apply the acquired knowledge in a case study. The target group for the trainings are the public stakeholders.

4. Delegation trip to Germany

As part of the project, the association organises a delegation trip to Germany. The aim is to promote knowledge exchange and contacts between the Ghanaian participants and the German private sector. The trip is rounded off with workshops, company visits and case studies.

About the Cooperation with the Private Sector project of German Development Cooperation

Private sector engagement is a key element for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda (SDGs). The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) promotes this engagement in cooperation with development cooperation through the “Cooperation with the Private Sector” project of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). Within this framework, the project implements joint projects with the private sector to systemically strengthen health systems in developing countries.
