The African German Health Association e.V. (AGHA) has developed a unique program in which healthcare professionals first learn German in Kenya and become familiar with the specifics of nursing and German culture. AGHA offers German healthcare facilities a comprehensive “all-inclusive package” – including recruitment, an educational program, entry arrangements, and support for integration in Germany. Initially, the healthcare professionals can work as nursing assistants while attending a course to gain recognition as fully qualified nurses. These courses are funded by the Federal Employment Agency. Our association is non-profit and operates in line with the UN Global Compact and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals:
There is already a significant shortage of skilled workers in the healthcare sector in Germany. The number of vacant positions far exceeds the number of available professionals. This shortage is expected to worsen in the coming years due to demographic changes.
In contrast, Kenya has a large potential of qualified healthcare professionals, but the local labor market is unable to fully absorb them. This results in a high level of unemployment among skilled workers in Kenya.
The targeted use of qualified international healthcare professionals can help reduce the supply gap in the German healthcare sector while simultaneously improving the employment situation in Kenya. The deployment of healthcare workers and the exchange of knowledge contribute significantly to economic and social development.
Surpluses from the earnings are invested in social projects in Africa to ensure sustainable support. In this way, everyone sustainably benefits from this program.
