Ghana:<\/b> Development and qualification of the Pharmaceutical Sector in Ghana<\/p>\n

2025 \u2013 ongoing<\/b><\/p>\n

The project aims to strengthen Ghana\u2019s pharmaceutical manufacturing sector. Its implementation is carried out in cooperation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) under the PharmaVax Ghana Programme.<\/p>\n

As part of the project, capacity building and targeted technical assistance in key areas – such as procurement and stock optimisation, pharmaceutical equipment management and maintenance, as well as occupational health and safety – will support the sustainable development and professionalisation of the sector.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Senegal:<\/b> Strengthening of the Pharmaceutical Sector
\nin Senegal<\/p>\n

2025 \u2013 ongoing<\/b><\/p>\n

Germany supports Senegal\u2019s efforts to foster pharmaceutical production. Within the framework of this project, the African German Health Association e.V. is contributing as an implementing partner of the Deutsche Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.<\/p>\n

The project consists of multiple work packages focusing on the private pharmaceutical sector, including assessments, training, and mentoring on WHO prequalification, access to funds, and fire hazard prevention and protection.<\/p>\n

Kenya:<\/b> Nurses from Kenya for Germany<\/p>\n

2024 \u2013 ongoing<\/b><\/p>\n

AGHA has developed a distinctive program that provides healthcare professionals from Kenya with access to exclusive job opportunities in Germany. Surpluses generated from this initiative are reinvested in social projects across Africa, fostering sustainable support and promoting the exchange of knowledge between Germany and Kenya.<\/p>\n

Senegal:<\/b> Maternity Project<\/p>\n

2023 \u2013 2025<\/b><\/p>\n

The African German Health Association, which has previously partnered with the Senegalese Ambassador to Germany on health initiatives in Senegal, is spearheading the construction of a maternity clinic in Donaye Taredji, a village in the Podor department of the Saint Louis region.<\/p>\n

The State of Bavaria has committed to supporting the training of local health staff, who will also serve at the new maternity clinic, providing much-needed healthcare for women in the village and surrounding areas. This project is also supported by GIZ.<\/p>\n

Ghana:<\/b> Equipment Donation<\/p>\n

2024 – 2025<\/b><\/p>\n

The Klinik Flechsig from Kiel has donated multiple pieces of medical equipment, including various hospital beds and bedside cabinets.<\/p>\n

With the support of our member company, Hospital Engineering, the donation is being shipped to Ghana. The company also assists in the installation of the equipment and provides necessary training at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital. The project is supported by the Block Foundation, which contributed to covering the logistic costs.<\/p>\n

Germany:<\/b> Pharma Roundtable and B2B Networking Session<\/p>\n

2025 <\/b><\/p>\n

The roundtable brought together delegates from Africa – including Ghana, Senegal, and South Africa – as well as Germany, all with a shared interest in the pharmaceutical sector on the occasion of the CPHI trade fair. <\/p>\n

It was organised under the umbrella of the Deutsche Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The event strengthened collaboration between the African delegations and the German pharmaceutical industry.<\/p>\n

Germany:<\/b> Research Project on Cultural Differences<\/p>\n

2025<\/b><\/p>\n

A group of fifth-semester students from the International School of Management (ISM) in Hamburg carried out an extensive research project together with the African German Health Association e. V. (AGHA).<\/p>\n

The aim of the project was to examine the cultural differences between Kenya and Germany and, on this basis, to develop an online preparatory course for nursing professionals from Kenya who will be working in Germany in the future.<\/p>\n

Ghana:<\/b> Trainings at the Biomanufacturing Training Centre<\/p>\n

2024<\/b><\/p>\n

The Biomanufacturing Training Centre in Accra, Ghana, is equipping students with the skills needed to excel in various fields within the pharmaceutical sector, including essential pharmaceutical production.<\/p>\n

AGHA and its members are proud to support the training program at the Biomanufacturing Training Centre by offering courses on \u201cHazardous Substances,\u201d \u201cHealth and Safety,\u201d and \u201cCold Chain (Logistics) Management.\u201d<\/p>\n

Germany:<\/b> Exciting Student Research Collaboration!<\/p>\n

2024<\/b><\/p>\n

Four motivated students from the International School of Management in Hamburg have taken on a significant research project commissioned by AGHA and AHK Ghana. Their task was to explore how kindergarten staff in Germany can be supported by skilled professionals from Ghana.<\/p>\n

Senegal:<\/b> Strengthening the health sector<\/p>\n

2021 – 2023<\/b><\/p>\n

AGHA worked together with the Special Initiative \u201eDecent work for a just transition\u201c on a broad-based project in the Republic of Senegal. The aim was to jointly contribute to the promotion of the physical and digital infrastructure of the health sector of the West African state.<\/p>\n

On the digital side, the focus was on an IHE- based eHealth infrastructure and creating jobs with the Sant\u00e9 Cloud & Data Accelerator Senegal programme. On the physical side, training and workshops on hospital planning and design as well as management and maintenance of hospital equipment were implemented. The qualification of hospital management staff and training for the Institut Pasteur rounded off this large-scale project.<\/p>\n

The programme aimed to strengthen the digital and physical infrastructure of Ghana\u2019s health sector. Project implementation was carried out in cooperation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).<\/p>\n

As part of the project activities, training in hospital administration, medical equipment maintenance and management were implemented. In addition, workshops on planning and design of health facilities were organised. All trainings were characterised by a combination of face-to-face and online content.<\/p>\n

Ghana:<\/b> Covid-19 vaccination campaign and trainings<\/p>\n

2022<\/b><\/p>\n

Germany supports Ghana’s efforts to become a pan-African centre for vaccine production. Within the framework of this project, the African German Health Association e.V. was making its contribution as an implementing partner of the Deutsche Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.<\/p>\n

The project consisted of a national campaign to promote willingness to vaccinate among hospital staff and training measures to improve vaccine availability. The spectrum ranged from digital tracking and supply chain management for vaccines to waste management and infection prevention.<\/p>\n

The programme aimed to strengthen the digital and physical infrastructure of Ghana’s health sector. As part of the project activities, training was implemented in the areas of hospital administration and health facility planning and design. In addition, workshops on the topic of digital health communication standards rounded off the programme.<\/p>\n
